Our Mission
The HBCU Chess Alliance exists to serve students who have long been under-resourced. More than 70% of HBCU students are Pell Grant-eligible, and many are the first in their families to attend college.
Through chess, we provide free access to mentorship,
scholarships, and career pathways that might otherwise remain out of reach.
Why Chess
Chess is known as a game of intellect. At a more fundamental level, it is a training ground for the capacities that shape how a person plans, adapts, and thrives under pressure throughout life.
It develops focus, pattern recognition, patience, and the confident decision-making that defines great leaders.
